In 1965 David Smucker moved to Manheim and bought an existing butcher shop and began offering custom processing to farmers in the area. Dave and his son Jay eventually formed a partnership and continued to process Beef, Hogs and Deer until the late 1990's when Jay assumed complete ownership with his wife Marty. In January of 2003 a fire destroyed the building in Manheim and Jay, together with his 2 sons relocated to Mount Joy where a larger facility breathed new life into a dying trade. Two years later the whole facility was brought under USDA inspection which expanded the scope of possibilities now available in the niche marketplace.
 
Today, over 40 years after the humble beginnings in Manheim, Smucker's Meats has become a growing asset to the local marketplace in the Tri-State area. Dave, who is now retired still helps out a couple days a week, cutting meat, making deliveries and occasionally winds up on the kill floor where the process has changed little since he started back in 1965. Jay continues on as sole proprietor of the business and directs production with many "hands on" hours. Jay's wife Marty manages the finances and payroll from her office at home, and provides breakfast for the crew on kill day. Jay's 2 sons, Mike and Jason round out the management team, with Mike handling Food Safety and record keeping, and Jason managing daily production and kill floor operations. Our team also consists of over 20 full and part time personnel, who are commited to a high level of quality and service.
Times are always changing and business today looks very different than it did 40 years ago, rising costs and competetive business can and are constant battles that are being fought every day. One thing that has not changed for us over the years is our commitment to quality. You can see it in the cleanliness of our facility, and our unending labor to get the job done right. Producing quality products is about so much more than a bottom line for us, it is something that we are passionate about. When Dave started this business he instilled quality into his family, we now take those lessons and live them out every day in everything that we do.
